Auction Watch # 5 – Atomic Dressing Table/Desk/Sideboard

This week on eBay this stunning Atomic desk caught my eye.

Atomic Desk # 1

Atomic Desk # 2

Atomic Desk # 3

Atomic Desk # 4

Fully refurbished the desk has great  angled lines that are so typical of early 1950’s furniture along with some small, however very nice design features. I especially like how the legs (painted black) support the desk and give the impression that it’s floating above the floor. I do wonder though what the original colour (if ever painted at all) the legs were?

You can find this beauty on eBay. Just search for ‘1950s Atomic Dressing Table Sideboard’, or via the eBay username – the.monster.at.no.14 – They have some awesome stuff, and definitely are worth adding to your favourite sellers list.

Auction Watch # 4 – Atomic Console Desk?

Whilst browsing eBay this week I came across an interesting ‘Console Desk’. You can find it buy searching for ‘Mid Century Tambour Splayed Leg Hall Table Console Desk Atomic Retro Vintage’.

1960's bread bin?
Images and blog post on an atomic console desk. Quirky item indeed.

The first thing that caught my eye was the bread bin style roll top ‘desk’ sitting upon 4 long, angled/splayed legs (It looks very similar to something I made during woodwork at school – to house bread only though….LOL). Upon closer inspection of the images it looks to me as though this quirky piece of furniture has been fashioned up from various other items (the coachwood cigar shaped legs, the bread bread with roll top lid, slide out drawer of some description and a coachwood shelf insert).

Regardless of the each of the original manufacturers idea’s, these various  items have been assembled together by someone with a decent eye to make (up-cycle?) a really unique, and quirky piece of functional furniture. Perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea, but I like it. Props go to the eBay seller for his/her great photos and styling .

Interesting Parker Sideboard

A new category for the blog this year will be ‘Auction Watch’, which basically as the name suggests will preview and discuss items either being auctioned online or for sale online through various websites.

It’s not a new idea, however it is one I definitely like. I think it helps to give you/me/whoever is browsing an insight into what other people of various fields find interesting and intriguing, along with furthering your knowledge/understanding  at the same time. Basically a win win situation.

To save the blog having a a heap of dead links in a few months time I’ll copy and paste a few photos, along with where the item is listed and the keywords needed to find it!

Don’t be shy to share something interesting you may of come across also, happy to hear and see what you guys are searching for/looking at. You can contact us here.

The first item I’ll be sharing is a ‘RETRO GENUINE ORIGINAL PARKER SIDEBOARD BUFFET 2 DOOR 4 DRAWER’ and although the auction has ended (was an eBay listing) I think it’s still worth sharing due to the interesting design of the piece.

Parker Sideboard Blog

This sideboard shares the same legs as an original Parker Coffee table that is currently for sale on the website (see here) and although we can’t quite make the date in the above picture, it would be from the late 1950’s, more than likely 1958 (same as the coffee table).

So why is this interesting you may ask? Well for me it confirms what I thought about the coffee table (possibly from the same series of furniture). That it is an in-between piece in regards to design and styling. Gone are the angled/splayed legs of the early 1950’s pieces however the veneers had not quite progressed to teak that became so popular during the 1960’s.

And what did it sell for? Well it was listed at $885, however the listing was ended early – most likely due to an outside offer/being sold through another avenue. Nice buying!
